laurie was adopted by the strode family after michael killed their older sister. so laurie is still a "myers" by blood and a "strode" by adoption. Her adopted father is a real estate agent and is selling the myers house. he asks laurie to drop the key off to the myers house...but at this point she does not know she herself is a myers.

I really liked Rob Zombie's version. It also made it easier to avoid continuity errors that the first series made, even though I wish there would have been closure (and better masks).
