this song is simply georgous. Makes me cry every time but i just can't get enough. Patrick is a genious. he know how to play with sounds and words to create such a beautiful and meaniful sound.

I'm pretty sure it's not about domestic abuse. I think reinbot is right. He says the Magic Position is like a photo album of his relationship, and although looks and impressions can be deceiving, I'm also pretty sure he didn't abuse his lover at the time...

...but they're stuck the way they are neither able to leave, and they live in their "impossible dream" of being a happy couple.

hmm maybe but i think either way, people see different things within any writing, be it in poems, novels or song lyrics and each can interpret things differently. I always thought that the verse about him being unable to change his ways and him knowing that they shouldnt stay together was because he was abusing her, but she's unable to leave him because she's still in love with him, but his love has long since "turned cold" and he knows they shouldn't be together...

i think its about two people who love eachother but cant be together. like the part about 'blood on our sheets' is like the saying 'blood on our hands' cause they were guilty for cheating, and the part about the cranes... theyre big birds confined in the attic, a small room, like them. theyre like the birds wanting their freedom to just be together but they can't. i dont see how anyone can find this song to be about domestic abuse...its just full of symbolism. |
